The “NHS Sport and Physical Activity Programme” builds on existing initiatives in the NHS by organising a wide range of sports activities. These are arranged to offer our staff a great social way to help address some of the challenges set by Boorman“NHS Sport and Physical Activity” report.
The programme offers a range of sport and physical activity initiatives designed to maintain and promote staff morale, creating opportunities to promote healthy lifestyle and encourage physical activity. It is designed to offer something for everyone and to maximise participation and enjoyment.
The programme provides support and information about how to set up sports and physical activities within the NHS, providing easy, cost effective and fun ways of improving staff health and well-being.
Examples of successful programmes include the establishment of an NHS Touch Rugby League, Netball League and Walking Club. Many new activities are in the process of setting up from basketball, cricket, football, swimming and to a dance league.
